How this was compiled:

These correspondences came from primary sources, from practitioners who shared how their traditions actually work, and from years of paying attention in my own garden.

 

Most correspondence lists work top down. A Western esoteric system decided a long time ago what a plant means, that meaning got copied forward through a few centuries of grimoires and Victorian occult revival, and now it's printed as fact. (and what a lot of ai and search engines regurgitate.) I work the other way around. Where did this plant originate and who carried it where? How does it grow, and who does it grow with? What does it heal, and what part of it does the healing? What does it pull out of the soil and what does it put back? ​That's how we've always worked with plants, long before any of it was systematized. Observe, use, listen, and build a relationship with the spirit of the thing.​

 

When something does come from a Western system, I name the system. Victorian flower language appears in a handful of entries and it's labeled as Victorian flower, while it has its own internal logic, it isn't the same thing as the plant telling you it's own spirit.​​

 

Closed traditions are marked closed and kept brief on purpose. If it's your tradition you already know how the work is done, and which spirits are called. For you this is a tool. If it is not your tradition, that entry is simply context and move on. 

 

Note: In order to compile all of these together I needed to use ai. Scanning in my own journals, books from practitioners and authors  I have vetted and trust, random conversations with a group of advanced practitioners I trust, and primary sources. If something looks "ai-ish" it probably is, and I have already found a few mistakes it's made by making contemporary and pop culture assumptions. Please let me know if you catch any of these. I'm human, I can miss stuff and do my best to quality control.
